Whitney Houston’s mother died at the age of 91.
Sissy, who sang backing vocals for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley, died this morning at her home in New Jersey.
The mother of the late pop singer Whitney Houston Sissy has died after a long illness at the age of 91. This was reported by her daughter-in-law Pat Houston on Monday, October 7, Associated Press (AR) writes.
The woman was 91 years old, she had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. Huston died surrounded by family members.
“Sissy was a strong and outstanding individual. A woman of deep faith and conviction who cared deeply about her family, religion and community. Her more than seventy-year career in music will forever remain in our hearts,” wrote Pat Houston.
Sissy Houston was a famous performer in the 1960s. The star performed as a duet with Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and other musical figures. During her singing career, Sissy twice became the winner of the Grammy Award.
In 1963, the singer had a daughter, Whitney Houston, who became a popular American singer.
Whitney Houston died in 2012. The official version of death is drowning in the bathroom, caused by heart problems.
The only daughter of Whitney Houston and her heir, Bobby Kristina Brown, died on July 26, 2015 at the age of 22, having been in a coma for six months. A few months before, she was found unconscious in the bathroom. Christina Brown was diagnosed with irreversible brain damage. She died without regaining consciousness.
